Dear Parent or Guardian,

I am excited that you are considering Camp Joy El. Many exciting things have been happening at Joy El, and our programs have been expanding at an amazing rate. Parents consistently tell us that the #1 reason they send their children is for the quality spiritual instruction. Because children are so valuable to us, we do everything in our capacity to provide a week of fun activities with a program of moral and biblical instruction in a safe, supervised environment. Our counselors are carefully selected and thoroughly trained. If there is anything we can do to make sure your experience is exceptional, please give me a call. And don't forget to sign up now to reserve your spot!   -- Aaron E. Ziebarth, Executive Director

 Activities

Want to know what your child will get the chance to do at summer camp? Take a look at all we offer!

The Go-Karts/files/Camp Joy El Images/SummerCampImages/GoKarts.JPG

Our Go-Karts are one of our most popular attractions here at Camp Joy El. Campers need to be at least 10 years old to do the driving. Younger campers will experience the thrill of riding alongside of a counselor.

The Climbing Tower

/files/Camp Joy El Images/SummerCampImages/ClimbTower.JPG

Another popular activity for summer campers is our climbing tower. Campers can climb to the top of a 25-foot tall tower as trained counselors handle the safety guide ropes. All campers wear a specially designed safety helmet.

The Swimming Pool

/files/Camp Joy El Images/SummerCampImages/Swimming.JPG

Those summer days filled with activity can get pretty hot, so a cool dip in our swimming pool is something our campers always look forward to. Trained, certified lifeguards are always on duty and counselors stay with their cabin groups to supervise.

Canoeing on Back Creek

/files/Camp Joy El Images/SummerCampImages/Canoeing.JPG

Another great way our campers cool off is by taking a canoe ride down Back Creek. All campers wear the appropriate life vest and a counselor stays with the group in the canoe.

The Archery Range

/files/Camp Joy El Images/SummerCampImages/Archery.JPG

Our campers love a chance to learn how to draw back a bow and shoot arrows at the targets on the range. This is not an adventure children will find at the local playground. Trained counselors teach campers how to hold the bow, draw the string and shoot an arrow.

Gymnasium

/files/Camp Joy El Images/GuestGroupImages/gym_Resized_215x204.jpg

Indoor activities and games take place in our regulation size gymnasium. From basketball, volleyball and indoor floor hockey to indoor initiatives, campers have plenty of activity to enjoy in spite of the weather.

Mini-golf Course

/files/Camp Joy El Images/SummerCampImages/MiniGolf.JPG

A hole in one is lots of fun, and our campers can make plenty on our miniture golf course. Each hole is designed with a biblical theme and walks our campers through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.

Making Crafts

/files/Camp Joy El Images/SummerCampImages/Crafts.JPG

Remember that clay bowl you made at camp when you were a kid and how your mom kept it for years? Some things about camp don't change. Campers enjoy being creative and messy. Time in the craft room gives our campers opportunity to be both. The results of a good day spent in arts and crafts could result in a masterpiece that will adorn your family room for years to come.

The Rifle Range

/files/Camp Joy El Images/SummerCampImages/DSCN6916.JPG

Campers who enjoy "hitting the mark" can choose to spend time on our rifle range doing some target shooting. Again, trained counselors are always present to instruct and supervise. Campers wear safety equipment to protect eyes and ears.

Low Ropes Challenge Course

/files/Camp Joy El Images/SummerCampImages/PeanutButterPit.JPG

/files/Camp Joy El Images/SummerCampImages/RopeWalk.JPG

Our low ropes challenge course is designed to teach campers the importance of teamwork and cooperation. Trained course instructors lead campers through a series of challenges while teaching important life lessons along the way.

What to Pack for Camp

Are you wondering what your child will need for a week of day camp or overnight camp? Not sure what items should stay at home? Please follow the guidelines below when packing your child's things for camp. If you have questions about anything not addressed here, please feel free to contact us at 717-369-4539 or email us at info@joyel.org.

What to leave at home:/files/HomePagePhotos/LifetoLifehomepage.jpg

It is our desire that each camper would spend time connecting with God and the other campers without distractions--this is part of what makes camping a unique experience, the setting apart from the normal everyday schedules and technologies of life. Because of this, we ask that all electronic devices (IPods, cell phones, video games, etc.) be left at home. We assure you that your child will be kept active throughout the week and will not miss these items. You may send letters to your camper by mail or email. (Emails can be sent via campermail@joyel.org.) Campers may respond to you through mail. Phone calls from you to your child (unless it is an emergency) are not permitted as it does take away from the camping experience and tends to cause or increase homesickness. Please be assured if there is a situation you need to be made aware of, one of our staff members will contact you. We are looking forward to having your child enjoy a week free from all outside distractions as they connect with God.

What to bring for Day Camp:

All Campers: Please label all backpacks, carry-bags, towels, etc.

  • Clothing: A change of clothing suitable for a day at camp, modest one-piece swimsuit, sweatshirt or jacket, extra pair of shoes. We do have water games some days, so dry clothes are recommended.
  • Personal items: Towel, insect repellent, sunscreen, camera, etc.
  • Study items: Bible, notebook, pen or pencil.
  • Spending money: All campers will deposit their money in the camp bank when they register. Camp staff will keep a running total of their balance. Money left over at the end of the week will be refunded to your child on the last day of camp.

Parent Testimonials

Want some good reasons to send your child to Camp Joy El? See what last summer's parents had to say...

  • “We were so impressed with the enthusiasm and courtesy expressed by the counselors and staff. Our daughter loved camp and will most likely be back next year!”

  • "My child accepted Christ while she was at camp, which was my prayer for her. Just another testimoney to your program that reaches out /files/HomePagePhotos/100_9761b.jpgto children."

  • "I think your camp is AMAZING. I can't say enough about how pleased I was with the friendly staff, the facilities, and the program. I was amazed at all the things you accomplished with the children! It is a beautiful, efficiently run camp. Thank you for all you did for [my son]... I know he has some great memories, and I hoping he will return next year."

  • "[My son] really enjoyed himself and we can see where it is good for him to have role models like the youth you have working with him. We also appreciate the time and effort you put into camp. It shows. We hope to be using more of Joy El's ministries. We feel it will assist us in making a huge impact on our son's future."

  • "I feel very good about sending my child to Camp Joy El. I want my daughter to grow in the Lord and Joy El is the perfect place that provides her with the tools she needs to face this difficult world. It is great that she hears the Word of God from other sources besides her mom and dad and our home church. This reinforces her understanding of the Bible and encourages her to seek out God on her own."
